H/W
I have chosen my own lifestyle magazine to analyse.
The cosmopolitan is aimed at women.
The masthead is in bold yellow Arial text.
The Main image is of a model in gym wear, this gives the reader something to aspire to, the model is meant to be an inspiration to become fit. However, I have noticed that the Cosmopolitan hardly ever use a black female model as their main image.
The cover lines vary from large font sizes to smaller font sizes. The colour of the text tends to be white and yellow, keeping it colour co-ordinated.
Advertisements are in the left sided column.
The cover lines usually contain the latest gossip, which can attract a female audience.

COLOUR CONNOTATIONS IN MAGAZINES

Different colours can convey different meanings or connotations to the viewer.

SPORTS; A sports magazine would have the colour red, it increases physical energy, vitality, staminia, grounding, stability and passion.
GAMING; a gaming magazine would have the colour red and orange, orange stimulates and encourages creativity and passion.

This is my magazine cover, aimed at teenaged girls, from the age of 14-20.
I have tried to use feminine yet classy colours.
My cover lines are there to attract and draw attention for the reader.
The masthead is meant to imply an aspect of detail and class.
The main image is meant to be a role model for young girls.
the magazine contains fashion advice and celebrity gossip.

WWW; good use of colour
WWW; good typography
WWW; good main image

EBI; I had finished writing the cover lines.
EBI; I could work on transparency.
EBI; I could work on the positioning of the cover lines.

Masthead: Special bold dark pink/Red font. The colour red is often used to represent passion, and can increase physical energy, vitality, stability and stamina. The colour Pink is often affiliated with feminism and can sometimes be seen as a stimulating, artistic colour.
The main picture is of a young, slim, female model in exercise clothing, which gives most women something to aspire to when seeing it; also wearing pink too. The picture partly covers the masthead.
Some of the cover lines are written in bold, black arial font, and one of them say 'YOUR DREAM BODY' in capitals, diverting your eyes to that first, clearly means that it should be at the top of your priorities to look at. There is also an arrow pointing towards the main picture of the model, almost telling the reader that 'this' is what your 'DREAM BODY' should look like.
Another attention seeking factor would be the 'Get Fit FOR FREE!' in red surrounded by a yellow circle. Exlclamation marks connote excitement and the word 'FREE' in capitals and red provokes energy.
The barcode tends to be at the side or at the bottom of a front cover, so that it isn't in the way.
There's a round blue circle on the top right, which stands out for it's unique look yet it contains content about sex, which is seen as more explicit content.

Some of the cover lines are written in blue, which represents devotion: "Scrawny to brawny in just 8 weeks." in itself requires devotion to achieve this goal in 8 weeks. The font type is Sans Serif 'Arial' in block capitals, which reaches to your attention.
Another attention seeking factor would be the 'Exclusive!' in red surrounded by a thin box. Exclamation marks connote excitement.
The cover picture changes and varies the typical font layout of the magazine, it also contains content of a more explicit nature.
